Beth Lane

PRODUCER | DIRECTOR | WRITER

Beth is a filmmaker, actress and activist living in Los Angeles and Ojai, California. A graduate of the MFA program at UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film & Television, Beth is the writer, producer and director of the feature documentary film, UnBroken. For Beth, this film is both a professional milestone and a personal quest to immortalize the incredible story of her family’s survival as Jews living in Germany during World War II and the unwavering courage shown by those who helped them. Beth co-produced Romeo & Julio (2018), an LGBTQ LatinX version of Romeo & Juliet, which was screened at the Pride Film Festival. She has been an actress in front of the camera for her entire career and was the recipient of the UCLA TFT Hollywood Foreign Press Association Award (2018), the UCLA TFT Jack Oakie Award (2017), and the UCLA Ralph Freud Award: Excellence in Acting (2016). Beth taught Acting at UCLA and she is also an alumna of the University of Michigan.

 

Angus Wall

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

Angus is a two-time Academy Award, three-time Emmy and BAFTA-winning editor and director. He is the founder and owner of the Rock Paper Scissors Group which consists of the film and commercial editorial company Rock Paper Scissors, VFX boutique a52, design and commercial production company Elastic, film data management company Datalab, and film and television production company MakeMake. Angus is the only person to ever win back-to-back Academy Awards for Best Editing, for THE SOCIAL NETWORK and THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.

Jennifer Sofio Hall

Andy Hall

Andy is the Executive Creative Director at Elastic, the animation and design division of MakeMake Entertainment. His love for the craft and mastery of animation is evident in the work he's done for Warner Bros, Honda, RIOT Games, HBO’s GAME OF THRONES,  XBOX, and BBDO's American Red Cross Holiday campaign, for which he took top honors in the Annecy International Film Festival, along with work winning many awards from Shots, ADC, Clios, Communication Arts and ProMax to name a few. 

Barbara & Mark Gerson

Before joining UnBroken as Executive Producers in December 2021, Barbara & Mark Gerson were Executive Producers of the Oscar-nominated 2015 film, The Hunting Ground, which shed light on the rampant issue of sexual assault on American college campuses.

Joel Moody

Joel is a Partner and the Head of Asset Management at the real estate private equity firm Rockwood Capital. He received his MBA in Finance and MA in Economics from Northwestern University, and BA in Economics from Carleton College. 

Aaron Soffin

LEAD EDITOR & CO-WRITER

Aaron fell in love with the puzzle of editing while studying film as an undergraduate at Yale University, where he edited and directed his first feature documentary. Since then, he has edited seven more award-winning feature documentaries and a short fiction adaptation, which includes:

Mining hundreds of hours of new and archival material from the war in Syria for Sebastian Junger and Nick Quested’s Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS; telling the inspiring story of a community of Holocaust survivors who refused to surrender their joie-de-vivre in Four Seasons Lodge; collaborating with DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus on their journey back to Bill Clinton’s political gurus in The Return of the War Room; and crafting the personal and up-close verité films of Andrew Berends from Iraq and Nigeria - Blood of My Brother, When Adnan Comes Home, and Delta Boys. He also edited June Weddings, a short fiction film adaptation of Barbara Hammond’s acclaimed play.

Dina Guttmann

EDITOR

Dina is an editor with a love of unscripted documentary films. She has edited films of diverse genres and lengths, including The Last Royals National Geographic Specials), A Healing Art  (POV Award at the 2009 International Doc Challenge), Mezzanotte Obscura  (World Cinema Short Film Award at the Amsterdam Film Festival), Zemene (Best Editing at the Boston Film Festival), A Self-Made Man (Margaret Mead Film Festival), and How To Lose Your Virginity (DOC NYC). Her most recent project, Finding Home in Boomtown premiered at Mountainfilm in Telluride, CO and won the best editing award at the Gallup Film Festival.

Alex H. Liu

EDITOR

Alex is a film and commercial editor based in New York, NY. His feature film credits include Monos (2019) the Academy-Award-winning Sound of Metal (2020) and Land (2021). His extensive work in advertising includes national commercial spots for brands including Playstation, Wealthsimple, Dell Technologies, and Ancestry.com. He is represented by Rock Paper Scissors in Santa Monica and New York.

Lia Lenart

ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Originally from Cambridge, Massachusetts, Lia graduated with honors from Harvard with a degree in Gender in 20th Century American Media and Culture. As a Directing MFA at UCLA’s School of Theater Film and Television, she was a UCLA TFT/Telluride FilmLAB Fellow, and received the Streisand Sony Fellowship, Jim Morrison Film Award, and UCLA University Fellowship. Her thesis, Cassandra, was awarded the Women in Film Verna Fields Memorial Fellowship, Lynn Weston Fellowship in Film, and the Adrienne Shelley Foundation Thesis Award.

Stacy Kessler-Aungst

Stacy Kessler-Aungst is the Head of Post-Production at MakeMake Entertainment. Her credits include Netflix’s THE BLACK GODFATHER, HALFTIME, and AMEND: THE FIGHT FOR AMERICA.

David Tomlin

An LA native, David Tomlin has worked in Post Production for the past 15 years, and has delivered over 500 hours of content – television, feature-length films, documentaries, news, and more – across broadcast, cable, and streaming providers for both domestic and international markets. He has Co-Produced several projects, including The Open House (Netflix), The Comedy Store (Showtime), Nocturnal (Theatrical), Heaven's Gate: The Cult of Cults (HBO Max), Hysterical (FX), and more.

Josh Buoy

Josh has co-founded and led successful media and technology startups, which reflect the multiplicity of our identities, fostering compassion and tolerance as prized, aspirational values. Mai Amalie Bak

Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Mai has a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oregon and an MFA in Film & Television Producing from Chapman University. She has produced five short films, including her most recent film, Etana, which screened at the Cleveland International Film Festival and Sedona International Film Festival, and was a 2021 recipient of the Sundance Institute’s Horizon Award and a nominee for the John Singleton Impact Award.

Jonathan Snipes

COMPOSER

Jonathan is a Los Angeles-based composer and sound designer. He teaches sound design at UCLA and is a member of the rap group clipping, currently signed to Sub Pop Records. Jonathan has served as a composer and sound editor within a wide variety of visual media, including documentaries, narrative films, short films, television, and music videos.

Olivia Aquilina

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Olivia is a cinematographer who grew up in California and London. Based in Chicago, IL, she attended Columbia College Chicago where she received her BA in Cinematography in 2017. Olivia has been working commercials with Nike, music videos for notable Chicago artists, and multiple narrative and web series projects. She recently shot a short film titled, Mulatto, that debuted at Cucalorus Film Festival. She has worked in the camera department on Lifetime features, documentaries and many other projects featuring Chance the Rapper, Hannibal Buress, Serena Williams and more. Olivia’s passion to create images, merged with her love of storytelling, drives her to generate stunning, fantastic films.

Nicholas Price

SOUND ENGINEER

Originally from the Cotswolds in England, Nick is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, earning a B.A. in Audio and Acoustic Arts with a concentration in Audio for Visual Media. He went on to work as an intern for the Chicago Recording Company (CRC), under the careful guidance of senior engineer, Michael Coyle and his assistant, Nealle Di Paolo, as well as Danetracks, and Kinowerks Studio, working in the post sound department for Netflix series Sense8. Nicholas worked under the guidance of Dane Davis (Post-Sound Supervisor), Stephanie Flack (ADR Supervisor), and Matt Kielkopf (First Assistant Editor).
